The vision of community should fully embrace its children and youth
It is imperative… that… definite steps be taken to ensure
that the vision of the community fully embraces its younger members. The
education of children, an obligation enjoined on both parents and institutions,
requires special emphasis so as to become thoroughly integrated into the
process of community development.

We shouldn’t allow anything to “intervene” between us and God
Should a man wish to adorn himself with the ornaments of the
earth, to wear its apparels, or partake of the benefits it can bestow, no harm
can befall him, if he alloweth nothing whatever to intervene between him and
God, for God hath ordained every good thing, whether created in the
heavens or in the earth, for such of His servants as truly believe in Him. Eat
ye, O people, of the good things which God hath allowed you, and deprive not
yourselves from His wondrous bounties. Render thanks and praise unto Him, and
be of them that are truly thankful.

One should never consider himself/herself greater than others
…the
first self-conceited one was Satan. A man must never consider himself greater
than others. Rather, he must always be humble and self-effacing. The bird, as
long as it sees itself at a low level, is given impetus to soar and progress;
but the moment it fancies itself high in the air, it begins to descend.

Each human being should try to “become a source of social good.”
...the honor and distinction of the individual consist in
this, that he among all the world's multitudes should become a source of social
good. Is any larger bounty conceivable than this, that an individual, looking
within himself, should find that by the confirming grace of God he has become
the cause of peace and well-being, of happiness and advantage to his fellow
men? No, by the one true God, there is no greater bliss, no more complete
delight.

We should “see in every human being only that which is worthy of praise”

It happened one day in the time of Christ—may the life of
the world be a sacrifice unto Him—that He passed by the dead body of a dog, a
carcass reeking, hideous, the limbs rotting away. One of those present said:
‘How foul its stench!’ And another said: ‘How sickening! How loathsome!’ To be
brief, each one of them had something to add to the list.
But then Christ Himself spoke, and He told them: ‘Look at
that dog’s teeth! How gleaming white!’
The Messiah’s sin-covering gaze did not for a moment dwell
upon the repulsiveness of that carrion. The one element of that dead dog’s
carcass which was not abomination was the teeth: and Jesus looked upon their
brightness.
Thus is it incumbent upon us, when we direct our gaze toward
other people, to see where they excel, not where they fail.

How to treat each other
Beware lest ye harm any soul, or make any heart to sorrow;
lest ye wound any man with your words, be he known to you or a stranger, be he
friend or foe. Pray ye for all; ask ye that all be blessed, all be forgiven.
Beware, beware, lest any of you seek vengeance, even against one who is
thirsting for your blood. Beware, beware, lest ye offend the feelings of
another, even though he be an evil-doer, and he wish you ill. Look ye not upon
the creatures, turn ye to their Creator. See ye not the never-yielding people,
see but the Lord of Hosts. Gaze ye not down upon the dust, gaze upward at the
shining sun, which hath caused every patch of darksome earth to glow with
light.

He [God] hath endowed every soul with the capacity to
recognize the signs of God. How could He, otherwise, have fulfilled His
testimony unto men, if ye be of them that ponder His Cause in their hearts. He
will never deal unjustly with any one, neither will He task a soul beyond its
power. He, verily, is the Compassionate, the All-Merciful.

A general rule to guide one’s life...
O thou dear handmaid of God! Thy letter hath been received
and its contents noted. Thou didst ask for a rule whereby to guide thy life.
Believe thou in God, and keep thine eyes fixed upon the
exalted Kingdom; be thou enamoured of the Abhá Beauty; stand thou firm in the
Covenant; yearn thou to ascend into the Heaven of the Universal Light. Be thou
severed from this world, and reborn through the sweet scents of holiness that
blow from the realm of the All-Highest. Be thou a summoner to love, and be thou
kind to all the human race. Love thou the children of men and share in their
sorrows. Be thou of those who foster peace. Offer thy friendship, be worthy of
trust. Be thou a balm to every sore, be thou a medicine for every ill. Bind
thou the souls together. Recite thou the verses of guidance. Be engaged in the
worship of thy Lord, and rise up to lead the people aright. Loose thy tongue and teach, and let thy face be bright with the fire
of God’s love. Rest thou not for a moment, seek thou to draw no easeful breath.
Thus mayest thou become a sign and symbol of God’s love, and a banner of His
grace.

"The foundation of the divine religions is reality"

9/25/13
We should adhere to the spiritual laws revealed to humanity in each age by the Manifestation of God the same way that we pay attention to laws governing our physical lives
Just as there are laws governing our physical lives,
requiring that we must supply our bodies with certain foods, maintain them
within a certain range of temperatures, and so forth, if we wish to avoid
physical disabilities, so also there are laws governing our spiritual lives.
These laws are revealed to mankind in each age by the Manifestation of God, and
obedience to them is of vital importance if each human being, and mankind in
general, is to develop properly and harmoniously. Moreover, these various aspects
are interdependent. If an individual violates the spiritual laws for his own
development he will cause injury not only to himself but to the society in
which he lives. Similarly, the condition of society has a direct effect on the
individuals who must live within it. (The Universal House of Justice, from a
letter dated 6 February 1973 to all National Spiritual Assemblies; ‘Messages
from the Universal House of Justice 1968-1973’; The Compilation of
Compilations, vol. I, A Chase and Holy Life)

The Prophets come to this world to help us educate our own souls

4/7/13
The teachings, proofs and evidences of the divine Manifestations (Prophets) are one -- They differ in name and form “but in reality They agree and are the same.”
The divine Manifestations since the day of Adam have striven
to unite humanity so that all may be accounted as one soul. The function and
purpose of a shepherd is to gather and not disperse his flock. The Prophets of
God have been divine Shepherds of humanity. They have established a bond of
love and unity among mankind, made scattered peoples one nation and wandering
tribes a mighty kingdom. They have laid the foundation of the oneness of God
and summoned all to universal peace. All these holy, divine Manifestations are
one. They have served one God, promulgated the same truth, founded the same
institutions and reflected the same light. Their appearances have been
successive and correlated; each One has announced and extolled the One Who was
to follow, and all laid the foundation of reality. They summoned and invited
the people to love and made the human world a mirror of the Word of God.
Therefore, the divine religions They established have one foundation; Their
teachings, proofs and evidences are one; in name and form They differ, but in
reality They agree and are the same. (‘Abdu’l-Baha, excerpt from a talk, 28 May
1912, New York;
‘The Promulgation of Universal Peace’)

We shouldn’t magnify our accomplishments
12/12/12
We should view all the peoples of the world as “leaves, blossoms and fruits” of “one tree”
The Blessed Beauty said: “All are the fruits of one tree and the leaves of one branch.” He likened the world of existence to one tree and all the souls to leaves, blossoms and fruits. Therefore all the branches, leaves, blossoms and fruits must be in the utmost of freshness, and the bringing about of this delicacy and sweetness depends upon union and fellowship. Therefore they must assist each other with all their power and seek everlasting life. Thus the friends of God must manifest the mercy of the Compassionate Lord in the world of existence and must show forth the bounty of the visible and invisible King. They must purify their sight, and look upon mankind as the leaves, blossoms and fruits of the tree of creation, and must always be thinking of doing good to someone, of love, consideration, affection and assistance to somebody. They must see no enemy and count no one as an ill wisher. They must consider every one on the earth as a friend; regard the stranger as an intimate, and the alien as a companion. They must not be bound by any tie, nay, rather, they should be free from every bond. In this day the one who is favored in the threshold of grandeur is the one who offers the cup of faithfulness and bestows the pearl of gift to the enemies, even to the fallen oppressor, lends a helping hand, and considers every bitter foe as an affectionate friend.
